Patricia Hilton-Robinson - Glass Engraver

The Harvest Now is Over
TI have recently started to engrave a series of Cameos based upon endangered species. The first, "The Harvest Now is Over" depicts the plight of the harvest mouse from modern farming methods. The reverse of the vase shows the mice flourishing under the old more manual methods.
Night Fishing
The idea evolved from a series of scenes showing tribesmen fishing with their nets at Lake Turkana, a world heritage site in Kenya.
Here Today But Gone Tomorrow?
The second of the series on endangered species depicts the plight of the Orang-Utans as deforestation removes their natural habitat for the palm oil industry. The scenes show - mother with her baby happily sitting in a leaf made nest, young ones watching on as the deforestation begins and finally the small orphans looking out over the palm oil plantation from the few remaining vines.
Nightflight
This piece is based on a series of photographs taken of Marmite and the other barn owls at the Hawk Conservancy Trust. The glass is hand blown by William Walker. It is inlaid with an aubergine colour and silver leaf is then rolled onto the last clear gather at the ‘marvering’ stage. This oxidises when heated in the ‘glory hole’ giving a golden hue to the outside of the vessel.
